Laurel Valley Emergency Evacuation

Any fire in Laurel Valley will be difficult if not impossible to extinguish before it destroys property and wildlife habitat. It could also potentially spread from here into the rest of the community of Townsend and/or into the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Note that Blount County is a part of an Integrated Public Alert Warning System, known as IPAWS. Through this system, alerts will be sent to all cell phones in the area –– should a wildfire occur. This system works for all cell phones that are physically located in the area affected regardless of the area code of the phone.

We encourage you to evaluate your location and the exit route from Laurel Valley now so that you will be prepared should a wildfire occur. We have supplied a very general map.
